WebRes: Towards a Web Operating System
نویسندگان
چکیده
The success of the World Wide Web has broaden the way for general distributed computing using a large set of heterogeneous computers. Unfortunately the resources made available on the Web are almost information only and interaction between users is limited to a few special applications. A Web Operating System (WOS) 8] tries to provide solutions for this problem and generalizes the use of diierent resources on the Web. In this paper we solve the problem of resource presentation on the Web by developing resource sets that act as an interactive meeting point of users and (Internet) resources. Resources can range from abstract concepts such as CPU-power to physical resources such as printers. Multiple users can participate in a resource set and share their local resources through a graphical user interface similar to today's desktop environments.

The vision of the Web of Things (WoT) aims to leverage Web standards in order to interconnect all types of embedded devices and realworld objects, and thus to make them a part of the WWW. Therefore, WoT aims to build a future Web of devices that is truly open, flexible, and scalable. We aim to contribute towards achieving this goal by relying on existing and well-known Web standards used in the...

The Web is now the dominant platform for delivering interactive applications to hundreds of millions of users. Correspondingly, web browsers have become the de facto operating system for hosting these web-based applications (web apps). Unfortunately, web apps, browsers, and operating systems have all become popular targets for web-based attacks, intensifying the need for secure web browsing sys...

Due to the huge amount of data published on the Web, the Web search process has become more difficult, and it is sometimes hard to get the expected results, especially when the users are less certain about their information needs. Several efforts have been proposed to support exploratory search on the web by using query expansion, faceted search, or supplementary information extracted from exte...
متن کاملTowards Supporting Differentiated Quality of Web Service
The exponential rise in the number of Web users has inspired the creation of a diversity of Web applications. Hence, Web Quality of Service (QoS) is an increasingly critical issue in Web services, such as e-commerce, Web hosting, etc. In future, improved QoS will be linked to a fee for service. Customers expect their requests to be served with a quality proportional to the amount charged to t...
